From circular solutions to regional strategies: THESEUS at A.SPIRE Industrial Innovation Days 2026

Project news & events

Circular technologies create opportunities for industries and cities to exchange resources and reduce waste. Putting these opportunities into practice requires coordinated decisions about how individual solutions fit together, respond to regional needs and receive support through governance and policy.

This connection between industrial innovation and regional decision-making was the focus of THESEUS’s contribution to the A.SPIRE Industrial Innovation Days 2026, held on 21-22 October in Brussels.

On 22 October, Dr Charalampos Manousiadis of I-SENSE Group/ICCS, THESEUS Project Manager, presented “Data to Decisions: Modelling and Policy Support for Circular Industrial Transition in THESEUS” during the session “H4Cs: Shaping the Circular Ecosystems of Industrial-Urban Symbiosis.”

Connecting technological evidence with regional planning

THESEUS is developing an integrated decision-support framework to help inform the planning and implementation of industrial-urban symbiosis and circular value chains at regional level. The approach connects technological and industrial evidence with regional science, governance and policy development.

Its purpose is to make complex information useful for the actors shaping the circular transition. Understanding a technology’s potential is one part of this process; understanding how it can contribute to a wider regional circular ecosystem is another. Bringing these perspectives together can support more informed decisions about the conditions needed for implementation.

A shared challenge across circularity projects

The session brought together THESEUS, United Circles, tExtended and REDOL, placing their respective approaches within a shared discussion: how can European research and innovation results translate into solutions that can be applied more widely across industries and regions?

For THESEUS, this discussion connects directly with the project’s regional approach to circularity. Alongside developing and demonstrating circular solutions, the project examines how evidence, modelling and policy support can help connect individual interventions into a broader industrial-urban ecosystem.
